Metaphor experiencing 1 kind of thing in terms of another (ex. Moon & spotlight: way to teach someone something. Metaphors are used to organize our experiences especially those that are hard to explain: ex) saying i fell in love or rumor is running around campus. Metaphors are what human beings use to organize their experiences meaningfully, they provide us a way of experiencing one kind of thing in terms of another. Metaphors become a kind of habitual way of seeing and understanding our world: metaphors structure our reality. Faded metaphors metaphorical language that has been used so often and for so long that we take the metaphor as literal: we take them for granted. Our metaphors are grounded in the experience of having human bodies: we use spatial metaphors (down = bad, up = good) because body is most concrete thing i have. How metaphors shape our thinking and our actions.
