Cronus - ate children who eventually overthrew him. Zeus, hera, demeter, hestia, poseidon, and hades were cronus and rhea"s offspring, the olympians. Zeus (zeus pater) youngest child, kind god. Creates athena, apollo, artemis, hermes, aphrodite, dionysos (youngest) With hera creates ares (least fav son), eileithyia and hebe. Related in name and powers in other cultures. Born on crete and grows up there then later moves up to mt olympus; also believed that he was born on mt. Weapon is the thunderbolt (thunder and lightening combined); only one to use it. Is the weapon he uses to overtake cronus and other titans. Always seen as mature god, muscular, grown beard, and usually olive crown. Olive tree sacred to him and also oak tree. Bull (bulls and cows top domestic animals in this time period) and the eagle sacred to him, aligned with his power. Aegis, goat skin that has magical properties sort of like body armor.
