Film editing is a creative and technical part of the post-production process of filmmaking: post-production = how the entertainment can be the most positive without those technical capabilities. Term derived fro the traditional process of working with film. First public screening of film: 10 short films by the lumiere brothers in paris in december 1985, considered the breakthrough of projected cinematographic motion pictures. Early films were more short in length. First file to use more than one shot was 1898 by robert w. paul (british film maker) Technology: black and white, stationary camera, first rotating camera that was used for panning shots 1898, basic shots included, close ups, limited, artificial lighting, simple special effects. Considered to be one the most pivotal stars in early hollywood. An icon in the silent film era. Associated with his little tramp character: toothbrush mustache, bowler hat, bamboo cane, funny walk. One of the greatest filmmakers in the history of american cinema.
