Research on alternative conceptions gives us some understanding of. What students typically think about a science topic. How we can help them and plan our lessons. Ask why questions/what do you think questions. Do not use leading questions that clue students to answer. When repeating the answer, do not distort it - don"t assume what students know and don"t know. Don"t ignore or move on before prompting or probing. Repeat or ask for clarification if student says i don"t know . Do not move on and give up on the answer. Do not fail to follow up on a key idea that came up in the answer. Make sure that you know what the child is referring to. Ngss - standards connecting to literacy standards. Choose topics and genres that appeal to all children. Choose topics and genres that represent science authentically.
