The aural effects of characters, objects, and settings. Sound operates on both physical and psychological levels. Sound should be integral to all three phases of film production. Most of film sound is created in post production. Dialogue is the only type of film sound typically recorded during production. Most film sound (sound effects, music, etc. ) is constructed in post. The sound editor is responsible for the process of editing individual soundtracks and for the sound crew. Sound mixers combine different tracks onto one composite sound track synchronous with the picture. Sound track; a single element that can be combined in a multitrack sound design. The goal with sound mixing is to create sound that is precise and clear. Describing film sound: pitch (level)- high or low; defined by frequency, loudness (volume or intensity)- loud/soft; amplitude, quality (texture)- simple/complex; harmonic content. Fidelity: a sounds faithfulness or unfaithfulness to its source.
