Document Summary

2010 haiti earthquake: the worst of all possible circumstances. Most of the government buildings were destroyed. United nations buildings destroyed and troops killed. Estimated 46,000 to 300,000 + people killed (over 10% of the country"s population) There was no first response and thus the average person was left to their own devices. There were few rescue and medical resources to begin with and most was taken out with the earthquake. International relief was not well coordinated (there was no single authority in charge) which lead supplies becoming stagnant. Reconstruction was slow, un troops brought std"s which also didn"t help much. Stress and strain concentrated on old faults in certain areas: reactivates them (old faults, the faults can extremely old but certain circumstances that cause the faults to move and generate earthquakes. Plate interiors are colder, more rigid and continuous. Seismic waves lose less energy within plates because of the conditions. Plate boundaries have loose blocks of crust and are warmer.
