The negro family: a case for national action. In urban ghetto terms of criminality, unemployment, educational failure, fatherlessness. Blamed black family for the problems of the black family. But society has created these issues, things going around the individual. Vietnam was mostly poor whites and black men. Notion used as a ploy for what was happening in the ghetto. Some were young fathers/sons, when they go to war they died/get sick/not have a job when you come back/hooked on heroin/ptsd. Unraveling of black family= associated with the fact that growing rates of teenage pregnancy, young parents failed to complete school and find employment. Most people were young mothers in that time. Fathers were largely absent from the home and single mothers were welfare dependent. You could not get welfare if father was in house. Welfare contributed to the fatherlessness of black family. Problems of the ;ghetto was because of black male promiscuity. Whites had better access to contraception, abortion, adoption.
