A word is created by an incorrect morphological analysis. New words can also be created by combining existing words. Ex. blackboard, greenhouse, pickpocket, blackberry, redneck etc. Head of a compound the core meaning of the compound. In bluebird the head of the compound is bird not blue . The head/core meaning is one of the members of the compound. The meaning of a compound word is not always compositional; many compounds are idiomatic. The head/core meaning is not part of the compound itself. Stress patterns in compound words are different than the stress patterns in phrases. When the words are in the same category, the compound will also be in the same category. The rightmost words is the head of the compound, which determines the category and the broad meaning. Forming new words by making morpheme-internal modifications; a phonological operation on the stem itself. Ablaut vowel change of the stem. Umlaut vowel fronting of the stem (type of ablaut)
