Document Summary

In the bhagavad-gita yoga is referred to as discipline. Krishna explains in detail which are karmayoga, jnanayoga and bhaktiyoga. Krishna explains to arjuna the meaning of karma yoga and says that man cannot attain success just by renunciation. Being selfish will not help to perform karma yoga. In order to do so, krishna states that man must perform with detachment. Detachment from actions is the way to achieve supreme good. Man must first clear his mind, control his senses and desires and then he may become detached from his actions and perform selflessly. Your duties, or dharma, are meant for you and are a part of your responsibilities to your family, community and yourself to contribute to the world. Karma yoga in the bhagavad-gita shows that man cannot be selfish while completing every day actions or they will be subjected to a cycle of births and deaths that cannot be broken unless they complete selfless acts.
