Biological and psychological theories, biological models focus on how innate biological differences between males and females have programmed different gender behaviors i. Boy has strong sexual feelings for mother and sees father as rival. Experiences castration anxiety about these desires so transfers love interest to more appropriate object. Starts to see himself more like father and begins to internalize father"s values and characteristics. Sexual love for his mother becomes feelings of affection iv. Madonna/whore split b: fathering can impact oedipal situation i. ii. If father is caring and attentive, he can ease the son"s identification and limit castration anxiety.
