The ethical dilemma revolves around whether or not to de-monetize anti-vaccine videos on youtube. De-monetizing these videos would follow the policy youtube made in february of this year, which was meant to stop the spread of the anti-vaccine movement. Vaccines save millions of lives, and this movement is persuading parents to put their children in danger and hurt others by not vaccinating. Youtube does not want to contribute to promoting the creation of this kind of content by making the producers profitable. However, it can be argued that this choice is unfair to one community since advertising remains on other potentially harmful videos, such as ones promoting controversial health items. Youtube"s reputation could be hurt by its choice to de-monetize some communities and not others. One action to take would be to have youtube hold strong in their decision and uphold their announcement to prohibit advertising on anti-vaccination content.
