Ancient greek gender relations: gender roles, mostly a patriarchal society. Men are the breadwinners, go to war, etc. Women stayed and tended to the home and children: mainly were arranged marriages. In the book many philosophers (including socrates) talked about love. Platonic love: an extreme love between two men (non-sexual) to create a strong intellectual bond. Fried dough with nuts and honey sprinkled on top: dairy, yogurt, cottage cheese, kefir (souring tasting milk, fruit, figs, olives, pomegranate, meat, chicken and eggs, pigs, goats, fish. Ancient greek fashion: common materials used, wool, linen (imported from egypt, leather (more for the wealthy) It was very expensive to buy pre-made clothes: the women were responsible for making clothes, male clothing, chitona. Long draping fabric worn over both shoulders. Sometimes worn with a cloak: exomine. Basically the same as a chitona but only worn on one shoulder: female clothing, peplos.
