Foreclosure: premature identity formation; adoption of roles and values without questioning; made commitment but not yet experienced crisis. Moratorium: time-out; accepted way to postpone making identity achievement choices; in midst of crisis, absent or weak commitments. Achievement: who am i as unique individual, in accord with past experiences and future-plans; undergone crisis, made commitment. Parental monitoring parental knowledge about whereabouts, activities, companions. Psychological control threat of withdrawing love and support.
