For test, know the name of the upper and lower houses of all countries. What makes a country an "advanced democracy": consolidated democracy. Feel certain that they won"t revert to non-democratic regime: industrialized market economy with a high level of economic development. Third world: everyone else, underdeveloped countries and less democratic ex. Important to note: many post communist countries are now in the developed category (cid:12254) (cid:12254) Hungary"s democracy is decreasing, looking more towards authoritarianism. The are more developed democracies now than in the past. Participation: standards of voter eligibility di er, voting is compulsory in some nations, but voluntary in most. Competition: di erent methods and levels of funding are used for political parties and campaigns, separation of powers vary greatly. Liberties: di erent degrees of individual privacy, distinctions exist in the regulation, allowance, or prohibition of activities such as abortion, prostitution and hate speech. Modern state is about centralizing authority and a creating a national identity.
