Fetal alcohol syndrome: facial abnormalities, brain damage, mental retardation. Rh factor incompatibility: mother w/ opposite rh factor of partner. Apgar scale: appearance, pulse, grimace, activity, respiration, 0-2 (2 being the best) Benefits of baby"s stress hormones during birth: help baby withstand oxygen deprivation, prepare baby to breathe, arouse infant to alertness.
