Number is expected to increase due to:  Increased awareness of rights of people with ID  Decrease in practices such as forced sterilization  Parents with intellectual disabilities  Parenting compromised  Child may be put in position of care giver for parent  Parents with ID experience difficulties:  Learning about childcare/finding day care  Appear to be abusive or neglectful  They are more likely than other parents to lose custody of their children  They often are not adequately represented during legal proceedings  Difficulties faced by parents with ID  Poor communication skills (receptive/communicative)
