Costar academy in his first year of school (military) Orthopedics (way to get into sports medicine) *two routes: (1) orthopedic route, where you perform surgical procedures (2) non-operative sports medicine route, you do a family practice residency, 1 year non- operative sports medicine fellowship. Went the first route, two times a week, 8-5. In fall, regular job but also after hours best/worst part of the job. More about team effort than the individual. Several disciplines: physical therapy, athletic training, nonoperative sports medicine doctor, massage therapist. Entertaining: challenge of getting patients to playing competitively as safely and as quickly as possible misconceptions. Work hard, sacrifice to put in a lot of hours to be successful advice. A lot of time to focus on career. Take advantage of all classes, medicine is about understanding patients from being a well rounded person. In all environments, you have to love being around it typical career tracks. Nonoperative route or orthopedic surgeon operative route.
