Brief de nition: comparative politics is the study and comparison of domestic politics across countries. It doesn"t have to do with countries interacting with each other. Comparative politics looks at politics inside a country while international relations looks at politics between di erent countries. Struggle for power so that one or more persons have the authority to make decisions for the group. Ability to in uence others to do what you want. Inductive reasoning- study a case and generate a hypothesis (qualitative) Deductive reasoning- works from a hypothesis to test data (can lead to nding correlation or even a causal relationship) (quantitative) Comparative method: a way to compare cases and draw conclusions on the basis of these comparisons. Set of tools to make inferences about causality. 2 basic styles of inference: inductive and deductive. Inductive approach- explanation moves from speci c statements to general ones. Deductive approach- explanation moves from general statements to speci c ones.
