PPE 3003 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Quartile, Socioeconomic Status, Externals
Document Summary
Socioeconomic status can determine ones" locus of control. People with internal loci of control might me more likely to engage in social activism and to participate in social movements since, compared to individuals with external loci of control, they believe that they can control their environment. Internals also tend to make active attempts to learn about their life situation more than externals do. To some degree, a person"s locus of control can be modified by training/experience. Assuming a normally distributed population, most of the participants would have clustered near the median. Self-help groups, drug treatment programs, and the like can employ the concept of internal vs. external locus of control to change people"s attitudes about their situation and encourage them to take action.
