PPE 3003 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Extraversion And Introversion
Document Summary
I don"t believe humans can be accurately described in terms of five dimensions alone, but most people do fall in one end of each dimension"s spectrum quite nicely. For instance, people tend to be more extroverted or more introverted, more agreeable or more irritable, etc. In my opinion, it does a fair job of summarizing basic human temperament: although the five factors do a good job in accounting for the data, they are nowhere near perfect. Personality is a qualitative concept, so it is difficult to accurately measure. Unconscious drives, other motives, perceptions, situations, goals, and various other elements should be accounted when we are trying to explain personality because they all affect human behavior and personality in one way or another. For example, some of our behavior is driven by unconscious motivations, and people"s personalities can change depending on the situation.
