Document Summary
Social perception people tend to process quickly and remember well information that pertains to themselves. Self-concept is a schema about yourself that contains all self-knowledge. Independent self-concept a way of defining oneself in terms of one"s own internal thoughts, feelings, and actions. Interdependent self-concept a way of defining oneself in terms of one"s relationships to other people; recognize how one"s behavior is determined by others. Introspection: the process whereby people look inward and examine their own thoughts, feelings, and motives. Self-awareness theory the idea that when people focus their attention on themselves, they evaluate and compare their behavior to their internal standards and values (basically we become objective evaluators of ourselves) People try to escape their self-awareness, sometimes through alcohol or eating disorders. Spotlight effect thinking everyone is positively focusing on you for a specific reason. Illusion of transparency how nervous people think they appear vs. how nervous seemed to others.
