Overview: what: evaluate ability to detect, recognize, and understand speech, why: communication, diagnostics, performance, when: order of testing, applications. How do we perform speech audiometry: through the audiometer, external a and b in channel 1 on left hand side: presents speech stimuli, right hand channel 2, speech button: produces speech noise. Speech banana: presentation of speech along the frequencies we test and perform pure tone threshold assessment, vowel sounds located at lower frequencies of speech, consonant sounds located at high frequencies of speech. Before testing: you, must be fluent in language for reading and interpreting correct responses, patient, must be fluent in language, age and ability appropriate, able to respond: verbal, writing, pointing, clicking on computer.
