Membrane: standard otoscope, video otoscope, proper bracing technique, one hand pulls up and back on the auricle, fingers of the other hand are placed against the head. Immittance audiometry: extent sound energy is transferred through the outer and middle ear systems. It"s a combination of: admittance, how much of an applied energy lows through a system, high admittance, greater flow of energy. Impedance: how much opposition there is to the flow of energy, blocking, high impedance, less flow (greater opposition) to the flow of energy, measured clinically by an immittance bridge/ middle ear analyzer, block diagram of middle ear analyzer. Instrument monitors admittance of the probe tone: contraction of the stapedius muscles is measured with an abrupt change in admittance. If there is no reflex, you will not be able to measure decay. If the reflex is not maintained for 10 seconds, then early decay is present: consistent with neural impairment.
