Description
AMH 2010 09/10/2013 Most important theme (from last lecture):  Original colonies weren’t well settled  Allowed for cultural norms to become better defined by region  Treated indentured servants really bad o Roughly 40% of indentured servants died before completing their servitude years  English settlers began to suspend “humane norms”  Indentured servants: Young men, 18 to 24 o Led to raucous society  Lack of institution(s) in original colonies  Landowners started to run government  Workers = commodities Basically the south was dumb… North balled hard… Middle/Later Half of the Century (17 ?) – World post-Bacon’s Rebellions  Thought that when an indentured servant completed their servitude time and freed they would rebel  Back then a long work day was considered all of 4 hours  Hard work – To the indentured servants workers was extremely insanely painful  Europeans moved in farther into the colonies o Children of past Native Americans now really good fighters o Guerilla warfare  Led to the idea of the “rich get richer while the poor get poorer” o Clearly indentured servants aren’t stable Main 2 Question
