Can"t go back to your body before cancer. Lorde was considered to be too pessimistic but that helped her cope. Pressure to conform, to be perfect - having two breasts. More money going towards implants and cosmetic surgery than prevention research. In her own words, lorde was a black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet. Caribbean-american writer, radical feminist, womanist, lesbian, and civil rights activist. Her refusal to wear a prosthesis and the discomfort this caused others, especially medical professionals. The insistence upon breast prosthesis as decent" rather than functional is an additional example of that wipe-out of self in which women are constantly encouraged to participate. There is a societal view of the breast as an accessory. Much of a woman"s identity comes from her physical appearance and having less than two breasts changes that and society will treat/see her differently.
