A genetic marker (SNP aka single nucleotide polymorphism) flags the approximate
location of a “gene”
o We don’t test all of DNA, we just take snips and look at places that are different
o We know they are associated with certain effects
Molecular Breeding Value (MBV)
Based on genetic markers
Doesn’t include all DNA
Genetic Enhanced EPDS
We use this todaymost valuable on young animals
DNA data are combined with production data to calculate EPDS
Regular EPDS- calving ease EPD is based on birth weight and calving ease scores
Genomic enhanced EPDS are just using 2 sets of scales to measure the same thing
