ANTH 1102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 24: Acculturation
Document Summary
Cultural di usion: the transmission of di erent cultural activities or beliefs from one section of people to another, mixing cultures after interaction. Cultural acculturation: the acceptance of a trait or belief, but changing it to t the area of people and their own decisions, using adaptation. Independent invention: cultural beliefs or traits that are developed without the in uence of another people, rather developed within the group to meet needs within. In my family my father is the head of the household, he makes all of the decisions, and my mother is the one who cooks our meals and does our laundry. My father goes to work, bringing in most of the family"s income, while my mother, although having a job, only brings in a portion. The development of the man being the head of the household, to my knowledge, dates back to biblical times, even as early as the old testament within the bible.
