Usually a women with exaggerated female characteristics. Parthenogenesis - ability to bear children on her own. Gaea - mother nature - gives birth to herself, mountains, earth. Rhea - gaea daughter - same thing as gaea. Hecate - old goddess of the underworld. Persephone kidnapped by hades and brought to underworld to be his wife. So sad she did not make seasons go, was going to starve the mortal world. Hermes goes to the underworld to tell hades to bring bak persephone. Hades makes persephone eat something of the underworld - now she cannot leave for so long. Can only visit demeter every now and then (why there are seasons) Demeter is upset at not being able to give birth. Earth cannot produce fruit as long as demeter is upset. Zeus ordered hades to give persephone - returned to her mother. When the two goddesses are together - warmth.
