Exotic species: a species introduced either accidentally or deliberately by human actions into places beyond its natural geographical range (e. g. house sparrow). Invasive species: an alien species whose introduction does (or is likely to) cause economic or environmental harm or harm to human health. Or, as defined by the iucn: animals, plants or other organisms introduced by man into places out of their natural range of distribution, where they become established and disperse, generating a negative impact on the local ecosystem and species. Native islanders noticed the birds began disappearing around the time snakes arrived. Many species went extinct, some species were extirpated (that is locally extinct, but still existing elsewhere). Pythons a popular pet; imported in the 1000"s to us. Established in everglades around 1979, with ~200 seen early 2000s. Eat virtually everything they can swallow; most mammals extirpated from the everglades. 15 to 25 year lifespan, reproducing throughout: one female can lay 100 eggs each clutch.
