ECOL 1000 Lecture 9: ECOL LESSON 9
Document Summary
Currently, denmark produces about 20% of their electricity needs through wind power. That"s projected to increase to 50% by 2030. Denmark also commands 60% of the global market for wind turbines. Google is currently using renewable energy to power 35% operations. Goal is to power the company with 100% renewable energy. Google not only recognizes the environmental benefits (and marketing opportunities), but they understand that investing in renewable energy is a business opportunity; doing well by doing good : wind farms: clusters of turbines. Currently produce less than 0. 5% of global electricity needs. But, fastest growing renewable sector (10x increase in last decade: no fuel needed (no drilling, wastes, etc, no pollutants released (co2, no2, so2) Domestic energy source: not subject to disruptions of single energy plants. Intermittent wind (use offshore locations?: windy areas not usually near urban areas. Fossil fuel not needed: no pollutants emitted. Energy cheap to produce (after expense of plant construction)
