Excluding cohabiting couples in committed hetero/homo sexual relationships that function in the same way as legal marriages but without the same legal rights and protections. In some parts of africa, india and asia, children as young as six years old marry other children, some even marry adults. Arranged marriages are also common in asia, africa, and middle east. A recent report indicated that divorce rates in india are soaring among middle classes as working women of independent means refuse to submit to arranged marriages.
