These new immigrants came with no money, no education. Lacked money and education to establish themselves. Many settled in industrial cities as unskilled workers. Great ethnic diversity among these new populations. Some immigrants formed close knit communities known as ethnic enclaves. Maintained close ties with their native countries, and families back hom -- cultural maintenance. Some worked to bring their families to americc. Some groups, like jews and germans, integrated into american culture easier, others, like the irish, had difficulty. Ethnic communities in the city shared common experiences. Despite initial disillusion, they pursued the american dream opportunities. Second generation immigrants attemed to break from the old ways, from traditional life. When new immigrants maintained their old ways, it provoked resentment among some native born americans.
