Document Summary
The railroad sector of the transportation industry is very important, for many years it has been moving vast amounts of materials across the nation. Over time the infrastructure of this important transportation system has begun to weather down. Due to the expansive railroad system that we have in our country there are many issues that have risen pertaining to the infrastructure. One of the most obvious issues with the infrastructure of the railroads are the bridges. The nation"s bridges are lagging and almost a quarter of the bridges have been deemed structurally deficient or functionally obsolete . Millions of pounds of freight trek across the nation daily and they will have to go over highways and rivers, creeks and canyons. Some of the bridges have been up for years and exposed to the elements which overtime will undermine the strength of the structure. Bridges need to be reinforced or totally replaced to make it safe.
