Carthage: founded by phoenicians, northern africa, fought about land and territory, 264- 148 bc, the punic wars. Carthage were trade rivals of the romans. Their army was made up of mercenaries. Mercenaries were people who would fight for anyone for pay. War ends because both sides worked out a peace treaty. Carthage had to pay rome 200 talons for 50 years.
