Rossini was one of first composers that was considered a major celebrity. Opera was focused on singer much more than orchestra. Operas were often staged during carnival, each year new ones were released. The barber of seville- opera that adapts a french film. Beaumarchais- wrote the barber of seville, the marriage of figaro, the guilty mother. Figaro= frantic and self-centered; factotum of the town. Rosina- the woman the count wants to marry, has other suitors. Mozart also based an opera on this character (the marriage of figaro)
