Document Summary
Social control helps answer a significant question in sociology, which is, how is social order possible, made, maintained, etc . Social control usually occurs in a broad response to deviance. Social control is usually a response to a type of deviance. Social control is involved in establishing and reaffirming a society or organizations more order, a combination of what is right and what is wrong. When a type of deviance occurs, someone or something is harmed. Collective shared values present in the relationships of people aren"t honored when deviance occurs. When we respond to our own deviance, we are announcing that we recognize that we created a type of damage and that we care about the victim and the norm. We need to respect variation and how any type of behavior is responded to. Sexual abuse of children ranks high on the immorality scale. There are lots of different frameworks when looking at social control.
