Document Summary

Sociology is the systematic study of human behavior in social context. The definition implies two things: (1) study human behavior by using rigorous scientific methods (2) study human behavior in relation to the social context. Important in understanding how our society is built. Although these are constructed, we use them everyday often without questioning them. Entail a socialization process whereby we need to know how they function, rules, conduct, etc. Micro- this refers to the individual level. These microstructures are framed through social relations that we maintain with family members, friends, co-workers, etc when we engage in face-to-face interaction with them. Macro- this refers to the ways institutions impact society. For instance, patriarchy can be studied at the micro-level because it impact our social system and helps reproduce gender inequality. Conflict, functionalist, and feminist are interested in this level of analysis. Reestablishment of equilibrium can best solve most social problems.
