Value system is an enduring organization of beliefs concerning preferable modes of conduct: ethics application of values. Intellectual property rights: protecting users rights to privacy + confidentiality, preservation of the cultural record, equity of access. Cultural relativism: norms of culture matter more than universal norms, there are differences in beliefs but not in values. Divine command theory (cid:862)god (cid:449)ills it, there for it is right(cid:863) Ethical egoism: objectivism, focus on self rather than others, altruism is impossible. Social contract theory: rational people accept a set of moral rules as long as others accept them as well. Utilitarianism: what is moral is what makes people happy. Leaves god out of morality: act an action is good if it produces more happiness than unhappiness, rule adopt rules that lead to more total happiness. Ethics of care: explores situations where traditional ethics is silent. Importance of all relationships: reason vs emotion, public vs private, concept of the self.
