IB 105 Lecture Notes - Lecture 24: Aquifer, Pie Chart, Civil Engineering
Document Summary
The primary difference between the haves and have nots is a difference in sanitation and infrastructure. Poor water quality greatly affects many, most countries do not have the infrastructure for clean water. In 1885 a heavy flood washed all of the pollution from the streets into lake michigan causing. 1. 2% of people to die from cholera, typhoid, and dysentery. Lack of infrastructure fuels the water crisis in developing nations: pipes. Global water usage on the right (different from water usage pie chart for us because us is showing domestic usage in home: most of our water is used for agriculture, then industry, then domestic use. Average american almost uses 600 liters of water per day. For most human uses and some commercial & industrial uses, water must be high quality: little dissolved salts, wastes, bacteria, chemicals, etc. Affluence affects water use: aquifer- water sources from below ground, the deeper water digging the more contaminated the water can be.
