Metabolic cart or system including mouthpiece and nose clip. This lab will expose students to indirect (estimated) and direct measurements of oxygen consumption. For demonstrative purposes, two students will complete a maximal oxygen consumption test on a treadmill. All students will participate in the harvard step test. Procedures: heart rate measurement, palpation technique: after locating the proper spot, count the number of beats for a predetermined length of time (use a stopwatch if necessary), use tips of index and middle finger. Do not use your thumb (why: place fingers over approximate location of radial artery. i. Radial artery: located thumb side on wrist, usually in the little. Fill in table 1 below: convert data to beats per minute.
