PSYC 250 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Humorism, Carl Jung, Surgency
Document Summary
Extraversion- surgency, sociability, energy, vivacity, boldness, approach/avoidance. Neuroticism- fearfulness, emotional reactivity, excitability, nerve stability. Agreeableness- affability, affection, affinity, aggression, hostility, fighting. These are traits found in a vast array of species studied in the experiment. Suggests these big five traits are found in our ancestors shared x number of years ago. Openness- possibly in an old common ancestor. Noticeably different in humans and nonhuman animals. Conscientiousness- only humans and chimps are the only species that portray this. Definition requires the organism to be able to plan and be aware of norms, follow rules, and control impulses. Used as a term to measure extraversion with low neuroticism. Used, with other traits, to predict success. Bold animals will travel farther and have more chances to survive. By traveling, they are able to find more mates and allow their gene pool to carry on to the next generation.
