Vandalism = damaging/ defacing private or public property. People vandalize out of boredom, anger, revenge, defiance, celebration. Can be costly, but not always destructive, can be part of creativity. Most vandals report it as a form of leisure for them. Leisure settings (parks, playgrounds) are common sites for vandalism. Thrill vandalism - occurs from the goading and daring of friends, or desire for excitement. Self expression vandalism - (graffiti) usually an attempt to be noticed, express creativity. Homo faber - humans create, build, change, and control the world with tools; we have an innate desire to work. Homo ludens - play also makes us human, we naturally play (even under harsh conditions) Both make us humans and are important aspects of life satisfaction. But not all work provides these rewards. Almost 60% would choose a different career if they could. People often characterize their work as boring, stressful, unrewarding and uninteresting.
