Story: set in pre-ww2 germany, sally bowles is the british-born star of the german cabaret. She meets clifford bradshaw, an american writer, and toether they begin a limited but intense love affair. This relationship is mirrored by the inclusuoin of an older pair of suitors- fraulein schneider, a german landlady, and herr schultz, a german jew. Sally is the only character to occupy both the real world and the surreal world of the cabaret song performances. Her songs float back and forth between these two worlds.
