As he flees, cro(cid:449)(cid:374) a(cid:271)a(cid:374)do(cid:374)s (cid:862)his (cid:449)o(cid:373)a(cid:374)(cid:863) bess, a(cid:374)d the (cid:272)rippled (cid:271)eggar porgy takes her in. By renouncing drugs and prostitution, bess allows the good christian ladies of catfish row to accept her into the community. Later, crown returns to reclaim bess but porgy kills him. When the police take porgy away to identify the body, the (cid:374)eigh(cid:271)orhood drug dealer porti(cid:374)(cid:859) life (cid:272)o(cid:374)(cid:448)i(cid:374)(cid:272)es bess the police actually suspect porgy of (cid:373)urder. He te(cid:373)pts her (cid:449)ith (cid:272)o(cid:272)ai(cid:374)e, pro(cid:373)ises her the (cid:858)high life(cid:859), a(cid:374)d takes her off (cid:449)ith hi(cid:373) to. At the final curtain porgy returns and resolves to fined bess.
