Bios 101: introduction to ecology | scientific studies. Ecology - the scientific study of the distribution and abundance of organisms, and their interactions with the environment. Literally the study of houses (oikos - house | logos - study) The employment of different techniques, methods, or standards of evidence to prove a phenomena or an object: scientist/s becomes interested in explaining one of the aspects of how the natural world works. Intentionally and unintentionally conduct observations: a hypothesis is constructed from the observations, then experiments are setup to test the hypotheses, hypotheses are either falsified or made into scientific paradigms** **a hypotheses cannot be proven true even when it correctly predicts an outcome. ** infinite number of hypotheses can be generated, that or other hypotheses that are stronger can falsify them. Observation -> hypothesis -> experiment/testing -> scientific paradigms / falsified. Hypothesis: suggested explanation for a phenomena based upon conceptual working model of how a system works.
