Document Summary

Networked gatekeeping and networked framing on #egypt explores twitter as an alternative news source and form of communication through the events of the egyptian uprising in 2011. The authors researched who the prominent users were, how they communicated with other users based on their level of prominence. As well as how using the hash tag in tweets reflected real world framing. The authors used frequency analysis, network analysis and discourse analysis of tweets to gather their information. This made me realize how big of a role twitter can play in important movements because. I usually just see it as a platform for recreational activities. It also made me realize how famous people can be extremely influential in spreading news, which is not always a good thing due to the lack of accuracy in their information. I would ask the authors to further explain their analysis methods because i found them confusing.
