Department of justice: 600,000 cases of wife assault. But victimization surveys show around 2. 1 million suffered some form of violence every year. National violence against women survey 20. 4% of all women victims of physical assaults from a current or former intimate partner over the course of their lifetimes (10% serious violence) While violence against wives declined not true of violence against men. Longitudinal study by straus on attitudes toward hitting a spouse: males declined; women stayed the same from 75-2005. Most female violence is not self defense but unilateral. Still women more likely to be injured in violence.
