Document Summary

Read selection by rodrick chiselm on human freedom and the concept of the self. p411-419. Not only are all human actions causally determined/necessitated, as well then no actions are free. If determinism is true then nothing that someone does is up to someone. If nothing that s does is up to s, then s is not a moral agent. Conclude then that no one is morally responsible for any of their actions. Says everything is causally necessitated but freedom is being caused immediately internally/ from the inside. 2nd problem with state is that his analysis if it is true doesn"t support moral responsibility. Action not in the agents power/control, then its not up to you, so then you weren"t free, and couldn"t be help responsible for it. (not responsible for it any more than any other inanimate object. Even when causally necessitated it was din the agent s power, therefor the agent was free and is morally responsible.
