CIS 110 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Nonverbal Communication, Paralanguage, Eye Contact
Document Summary
Effective delivery is the controlled use of voice and body to express the qualities of naturalness, enthusiasm, confidence, and directness. Effective delivery rests on the same natural foundation as everyday conversation, except it is rehearsed and purposeful. Audience members expect speakers to be without artifice- to be genuine. It is only throughout practicing the message that you gain the confidence to deliver it in a natural manner. Speeches delivered with confidence and composure inspire the audience"s confidence in you and in your message. Confident delivery directs the audience"s attention to the message and away from the speaker"s behavior. To truly communicate with your audience, you need to show that you care about them and their reasons for listening to you. One way this is done; by making your message relevant to the interests and attitudes of audience members. Also, be demonstrating your interest and concern for them in your delivery.
