What theory does sound like this: differential association theory. Opportunity hypothesis of delinquency: the most important factor is the amount of time spent with their friends away from parents, teachers, and other agents of social control. Not necessarily having friends who are highly delinquent: youth with more free time spent away from of authorities have an increased probability of engaging in delinquency. What theory does this sound like: social control & social bonding. Research shows that both of these hypotheses are supported: youth are socialized by their peer. Above the fact that juveniles choose friends similar to themselves: unstructured activities and a lack of competent supervision increases the probability of delinquency friendship & delinquency: how gender matters. Gender of a youth"s friends is an important factor to consider: girls are taught that to be feminine is to be ladylike and to follow rules. Monday, march 6, 2017: boys are encouraged to display masculine characteristics and behaviors.
